It is impossible to not fall in love with Buenos Aires! Such a vibrant and culturally interesting city! Said to be very European in its style and yes, having in mind the large boulevards and many imposing buildings in French and Italian style, that is true, but the city also has a very proper and genuine South American, or simply Argentinian feeling. A discovery of the different neighbourhoods is a must: Colourful La Boca, home for one of the best football teams in town, San Telmo where one can be surprised with a street-tango performance at any time; Palermo famous for its many restaurants and lively night-life; La Recoleta with it´s cemetery and the tomb of legendary Evita Perón; the modern “waterfront area” of Puerto Madero with the beautiful “Puente da las mujeres“. In addition, many museums and cultural institutions such as the famous Colón Theatre and for booklovers the beautiful book shop Ateneú located in a former theatre. You can easily spend one week or even two and still be occupied visiting all interesting cultural sites since the selection is huge and the city is big. Reserve some time to visit some of the well-known coffee shops, for example Café Tortoni with its cosy atmosphere and with Tango show on the program every evening. Savour the local kitchen and try the best pizza in the very local restaurant “El Quartito” located close to the theatre district and that is packed with locals every night and enjoy the best beef in the world served in “assado” style. A surprise, the metal sculpture “Floralis Genérica” by Argentinian sculptor Eduardo Catalano. The aluminium and steel flower “blooms” at 8.00 in the morning, closing its enormous petals at dusk. A beautiful and amazing sculpture in an open green area making it possible to study the flower from different angles. Just loved it!
Tango? So important that it has it own blogpost.
