Cascais is the former fishing village that became famous in the late 19th century when it became popular to visit the Lisbon coast for recreation and later on, in relation to the 2nd World war when Portugal gave shelter to refugees. At the end of the war, families from several European former monarchies settled down in Estoril & Cascais and as a result the popularity started to grove also outisde the country. Since then the popularity has been going up and down such as it happens for all destinations, but today Cascais is highly ranked again. Holidays makers love its coziness, the food & wine, the beaches & surf and the friendly population and atmopshere. In addition many people from different nationalities also chose Cascais for a second residence due to the high quality of life and safe environment provided to its citizens.
